Nadia Lim launches free e-recipe book of $5 per serve meals

Help is on its way for Kiwis battling rising food prices in the form of a free e-recipe book created by cook Nadia Lim in collaboration with TikTok influencer The Contraversial Kiwi (John Fox) and Bargain Box by My Food Bag.

From today, the e-recipe book, aptly named Saver Flavour, is available to download free of charge for all New Zealanders. With the cost of food up 9% on last year, the launch could not have come at a better time.

Each recipe will cost no more than $5 per serve to create at home, has been carefully crafted using a number of pantry staples that most Kiwis have on hand, and contains at least one to three servings of vegetables. Recipe highlights include Nadia’s chicken three ways – using one roast chicken to create three different meals, The Contraversial Kiwi’s spiced fried chicken wings and budget bites from the Bargain Box chefs including spaghetti pizza ramen and cheat’s cabbage rolls.

In addition to delicious, low-cost recipes, Saver Flavour contains a range of easy and affordable ideas for snacks, desserts and sides along with practical tips and tricks for reducing the cost of your weekly food shop. For example, reminding kiwis to ‘shop their pantry’, growing your own garlic and freezing ingredients such as ginger, chilli and curry leaves to minimise waste.

Cook Nadia Lim says cost should not be a barrier to Kiwis eating well and the launch of Saver Flavour is one step closer to achieving this goal.

“We want to empower Kiwis in the knowledge that creating a nutritious, well-balanced meal doesn’t have to be expensive,” says Nadia.

“The key to this is education around how to shop seasonally and learning how to utilise what ingredients you already have in your pantry, to create something delicious.”

With Nadia and Bargain Box by My Food Bag bringing extensive experience in the development of delicious and nutritious recipes, combined with The Contraversial Kiwi’s keen interest in advocating for cost-effective food to feed Kiwi families, they really are the perfect trio for the job.

TikTok influencer The Contraversial Kiwi, also known as John Fox, says a resource like Saver Flavour is going to be invaluable for so many Kiwis doing it tough at the moment.

“I’m a dad and a home cook who understands first-hand just how expensive it is to feed a family, and I know from my TikTok community that many others are struggling with this too,” says John.

“Essentially the launch of Saver Flavour is built on the premise of what I set out to do when I started The Contraversial Kiwi, so these recipes will be on high rotation in my house too.”

There are more than 45 different recipes to choose from with each clearly identifying the time it takes to prepare, the quantity of vegetables and the cost per serve.
