Hoppy Holidays: get moving on your advent beer calendar while there’s still time.

The days are growing longer, the nights are warmer, the kōwhai blossom has been and gone, and the razzle-dazzle of pōhutukawa flowers has taken up the bird feeding mantle (at least they have in these balmy northern climes). You might well be ignoring the onset of Christmas and waiting until December before you think about gifts, but the time to consider advent calendars is upon us.

We here at The Feed, being of legal drinking age and blessed with discerning palates, are all about the beers this yuletide. The northern winter may demand claret and port, but down here in the Southern hemisphere, we require something a little colder and a little mre refreshing. Fortunately, some enterprising folks have put together some all-beer advent calendars to keep us feeling festive from the 1st of December until the big day. Here are a few selections to consider:

Upper Hut brewery Kererū provide a selections of their own excellent beers featuring the award-winning Big Pigeon Pilsner and Cocunut Porter. All the calendars come in the same order in perforated packaging so you and a friend can compare daily tasting notes. A portion of all proceeds go to NZ Forest and Bird Association ‘to help protect our native, feathered treasures’.

If you hurry you might still be able to nab a Behemoth, 24 days of Chur-mas advent calender. This exemplary Auckland brewery is offering 24 different beers some of which have yet to be released! Novelty! Exclusivity! Beer!

The ever-reliable Beer Jerk are offering a selection of 24 classic beers from their massive range of independent, New Zealand brewers. All tucked away behind classic perforated compartments. Their premium calendar is already sold out so best move fast.

Craft Box Direct are offering 24 different beers from 24 different breweries. These include offerings from Garage Project, Behemoth, Parrotdog, and Boneface. Excellent stuff.

The Beer Cellar’s calendar promises great brews from the likes of Mcleods, St Bernardus, Eddyline, Delirium, and Hallertau. They have promised some exclusive beers in the mix. Sometimes a beer is just for Christmas.

Finally, The Beer Library are offering their range of premium beers in a beautifuly packaged box that will keep the surprises come until Cristmas Day. As a point of difference from the rest, this box contains 25 beers from small, local, and independent New Zealand producers.
